1361101 2013-11-29 07:42:00 Hi All...Do these things actually connect a laptop to the intenet? If so...How? Thanks. PJ Poppa John (284)
1361102 2013-11-29 07:49:00 In a nut shell, yes to both. From Telecoms Site (www.telecom.co.nz) as an example.

In simple terms they connect to a service provider. They can be either on plans or pre-paid, which usually = $$$$$$$

1361103 2013-11-29 08:28:00 Yeah what Wainuitech said. They're pretty easy to use (mostly) and are fine for a short term Internet solution. T-Sticks are a Telecom branded device, but you can find similar from 2Degrees, Vodafone, and Skinny (also part of Telecom). Greg (193)
1361104 2013-11-29 12:06:00 A word of advice :) don't buy the tstick/ USB 3G dongles!
The software that they all need to install to work is terrible.
We get so many laptops in the workshop that have a telecom or Vodafone stick that just won't work any more.
99% of the time we haven't been able to fix it and a full reload of the operating system is needed to get them working again.
I recommend you get one of the pocket wifi devices instead as no software is required.
It basically creates a wifi hotspot that you can connect up to 5 devices to at the same time to get Internet access.
You just use the wifi built into your device to coonect to it.

Next question.
We are with Telecom for our broadband. Can we connect via the t-stick to our Home accountB/B Connection & pay via that? PJ

1361106 2013-11-30 07:00:00 Nope, a tick stick is a cellular device like your cell phone, it uses the same network and charges the same. I use a telecom T-stick once a month at a LAN club I attend and pay $15 for 500mb prepaid data which is usually enough. Posted this using it from the club in fact. If you wan't access to your home broadband you need to use wireless or a wired ethernet connection. You can get a USB wi-fi adapter if your laptop doesn't have it built in if that was what you were meaning dugimodo (138)

The idea was that if we took the laptop out with us & were not near a hotspot..we could connect to our Telecom B/B account. PJ

1361108 2013-11-30 08:32:00 Just set your phone as a wifi hotspot and connect your laptop to your phone. I tried A vf stick - hopeless connectivity, your phone will do it better. Just uses your normal data allowance. Ofthesea (14129)
1361109 2013-11-30 19:37:00 When I moved to Christchurch from Nelson and was living in a friends sleepout fro 2 months until the family arrived from Nelson I used a 2D stick for 2 months no problems at all I could even video skype with it the connection and speed were good enough gary67 (56)
