1340253 2013-05-08 07:54:00 Great! No barrel, would be very difficult to hit anything. Looks like a single shot. You don't need high tec to make a gun. mau-mau terrorists made guns out of water pipe and door bolts, very effective they were too. Frightening noise because instead of a sharp crack as the bullet went past, it make a whirring sound as the vicinity was sprayed with junk. Anyone with a small lathe and a mig welder could make a gun. mzee (3324)
1340254 2013-05-08 08:36:00 I have an early version of one of those printers I can't tune it up enough to make objects of that quality pity I could make a fortune out of making guns that will pass through a metal detector gary67 (56)
1340255 2013-05-08 08:38:00 Even in NZ if you really wanted to you could buy a real pistol far cheaper than the printer required to print one. It is not practical I would be surprised if it lasted more than one shot and you a[so would be very lucky to hit a target more than a couple of metres away. CliveM (6007)

Not really you can build a basic printer for around $400

1340257 2013-05-08 09:32:00 A plastic gun barrel now that is really stupid. There must be some metal bits like the striker to hit the end of the .22 rim rimfire and the breech as the bullet gets hot when its fired. Unless its a one shot gun. Be better off using a knife to stab the person. Be easier to modify a kids cap gun. prefect (6291)

Be better off using a knife to stab the person. Be easier to modify a kids cap gun.The article says it uses a nail as the firing pin, it actually fires a .38 round which is center fire. A pistol barrel in nearly all cases is rifled to spin the bullet to make it more acurate. A short barrel and no rifling is just dangerous. No accuracy and will go anywhere. Breach Block is a major concern, I think it would only fire a few shots before the plastic was slogged out with the expansion of the case. I would never fire one of these, it is an accident waiting to happen.

Problem is that at point blank range, its still a killer, and I still wouldnt want to be in front of it at a couple of hundred yards (even though getting hit by it would be slim).

@ $1000 for the "printed pistol" + $8000 for the printer, I think I'd rather stick to buying a new Glock legally (my FAL endorsed for pistol) for under a $1000. Think it may last a little longer and I wouldn't trust pulling the trigger on that piece of sh!te ...

It would only be for those "scum" who want something illegal and I would hope the bloody thing blew up on them !

OHHhhh ... now there's a thought ... make and sell to the "Bad" guys and make sure there's a design fault ... "Stick 'em up" ... BANG ! ... Damn, where's my face gone ...
