| 1339937 | 2013-05-07 11:22:00 | You all realise the banks want you to spend money FASTER. The more turnover they get the more money they make, so the odd hiccup of a ripoff makes little difference to them. It is pretty convenient for retailers to for the same reasons. If it goes fast you can't count it!!! I smell a conspiracy theory... |

| 1339938 | 2013-05-07 11:57:00 | I smell a conspiracy theory... MMMmmmm... I don't arrive at the checkout after spending $50 on a small grocery shop and think to myself "Well damn, I've just saved 30 seconds at the checkout, I've got time to go to another store now and spend more money". Nope, instead I think "Hmmm I wonder if I have time to get home and check emails before I have to put dinner on?" |

Places like Maccas have allowed up to $40 on a Credit Card without a PIN or a signature at all for a year or two now, before NFC-enabled Credit Cards were around... |

They do NOT make money on turnover, in fact it COSTS them money to have cash on hand in the branch (or ATM)... If you can, please provide links to data (facts) that support the wild claim that you make PPp... |

There are numerous times that you have to wait after putting in your PIN into the shop's machine and the checkout person normally tells you that things are on a go slow. Anything that speeds up the process will help move the queues along faster. | Bobh (5192) | ||

An RF signal is an alternating magnetic field (in near-field range) and in far-field it is largely an electric field. Basically the terminal powers the card when in near field and interrogates it for account details at the same time. The 'tap' is to ensure it has got close enough to be read and presumably the reader will beep to confirm. Cheers Billy 8-{) |

| 1339944 | 2013-05-08 20:10:00 | I witnessed the use of one of these cards last night at the supermarket. An older gent was trying to find where to put his card in the eftpos terminal. There was a swipe slot, but he wasn't getting any joy from it. The checkout operator grabbed the card and shoved it into a slot which was hidden on the bottom edge, at which point there was a beep, and she said "Oh, it's done, oh look, it's tap and go". So the old gent paid without knowing how he paid, and without ever picking which account it was to be paid from (I can see that becoming an issue). From my own perspective, I hold my wallet beside the eft terminal as I swipe with the other hand, so I could be planning to pay from an entirely different account, only to find my funds have been snaffled from a card that is still in my wallet. I'll bet the account that is the default for the card is also the one that will attract the least interest on funds, the highest fees and penalties for being overdrawn. What happens when someone is carrying more than one tap & go card? They approach the terminal with their wallet, it swipes funds off one of the cards, and then the query becomes "who paid for that" was it his card or her card? Can we reverse that and do it again with this card? T&G terminals need to be placed where they will not be accidentally approached - eg shoulder height or above. |

I understand that outlets such as Farmers would do so but what about cafés and smaller purchases that can mount up? All of our credit and debit card payment records are entered and kept in our financial system. Or do you have a card for what would otherwise be cash payments? |
