In sheer desperation I took the cpu chip and heat sink out, cleaned them both with Meth spirits, re-mortged the house and bought a tube of heat sink compound, (lord stuff makes inkjet ink look real cheap !) and replaced everything. Bolted on all the covers and now it's been runing non stop for nearly a week. Playing movies and running test progies all non stop. Lesson learnt the hard way you could say. Good to hear you got it sorted! I thought the paste was pretty cheap, considering you only need a tiny bit per CPU. Even a small tube will last a long time for home use. My AS5 has lasted years. |
