1361402 2013-12-02 06:39:00 There are quite a few Free office apps for Android. I use kingsoft on Mine.

re windows 8 tablets -- are you meaning the full W8 or RT ?

RT comes with a version of office 365 preloaded designed for the ARM processors.

I'm refering to Windows 8, I've been reading some rumours that Microsoft is going to pull the plug on Windows RT due to lack of interest from OEMs and lack of actual sales to customers.

1361403 2013-12-02 08:53:00 There's an 11" HP Chromebook which has been getting *rave* reviews last I heard. Chromebooks were 4/5 of Amazon's Top 5 Laptop Computers too! Chilling_Silence (9)

The HP has been removed from sale because of overheating chargers

I'm not sure I'd use Amazon top lists to make buying decision. 3/4 of the top 100 are a Windows machines. Amazon buyers are focused on dirt cheap machines

A a Windows tablet the Asus T100 hybrid 2n1 convertible is currently #1 and certainly 4/5 machines aren't Chromebooks currently

the Warehouse is selling a $400 Acer Windows 8 machine currently here in NZ

With Microsoft's history of shitting on its OEMs when a product fails.. I'd say its a safe assumption to make :)

Correct on both the HP Chromebook 11 removal, and correct on the Amazon buyers. However, what makes you think that most Kiwis are any different?

Highlighted -- many people dont know the difference between a good or rubbish product. If they saw two Notebooks, or tablets sitting side by side one was a lot more expensive than the other a lot go for the cheaper one, then wonder why its not performing like they expected.

A classic example was a few weeks back, I was at stationary warehouse buys some supplies, overheard some people talking, they were deciding which tablet to buy, they were commenting like -- Oh thats a pretty looking one, has a nice color to it (Referring to the case- as it was actually not turned on) -- its got to be better than the other one we looked at :groan: The one they were looking at was a cheap rubbish no name one the Warehouse peddle.

Give me strength :groan:

Ah I dunno, I can do over 90% of the things I want to from the browser these days.

Only thing a Chromebook couldn't do for me is play DotA2. Everything else, sweet as... I'd imagine it's largely the same for most school students too.
