| 1340214 | 2013-05-08 06:47:00 | Back in the day with the old cell phones there was a danger of some cell radio signals interfering with flight instruments (similar to the GPRS "beep" you can hear on audio equipments). Now with new communication technology and better shielding/avionics that's no longer an issue. The "Flight mode" issue is simply a hangover from the old days and also a cost saving measure, since the FCC, CAA and Aircraft/Avionics manufacturers would have to prove their gear is safe to use with all the possible cell technology world wide, as well as cell manufacturers proving the same in reverse. If you've ever been on a flight in Asia you'd know, if there was a real danger there'd be a lot of planes on the ground in pieces. There's at least one person (usually 3 :p) who has a loud call going, or a rediculously loud and VERY annoying asian style message tone. Flight attendants get quite bossy but to no avail. Chinese blokes don't take much **** from Chinese women :D |
