1339917 2013-05-07 01:28:00 What actually powers these Cards in order for them to transmit the required information?

They're actually slightly radioactive.

So that is why I can smell the uranium on the card. :D

1339922 2013-05-07 02:27:00 Interesting how slack over the years we get with our money as technology "improves"

A way to dodge credit card fees for husband and wife is to use the same card. No your not supposed to blah blah blah yet it happens. Why? Because no one checks the cardholder name or signature against the person using it. Have pin number you in! Now we have a situation where you dont need even a pin number let alone a signature check.

Guess what though banks going to say tough luck when you get fleeced.

You will need a PIN if the sale is greater than $80...

1339923 2013-05-07 02:54:00 They are a billion times faster at processing than a chip card too. Bring it on I say. Alex B (15479)

Very interesting, but I can’t find whether this chip derives its power from an alternating magnetic field provided by the receiver or by rectifying an RF signal supplied from the receiver.

The short range seems to make it quite different from the chips in the new Passports which I’m told will advise the authorities when you pass certain waypoints in an Airport.

No doubt about it, Big Brother is watching. ;)

I din not know that BUT $80 at a time not going to take long or much to deplete someones account.

1339926 2013-05-07 06:39:00 I (accidentally) used Tap and Go recently at Farmers. I was just asking the shop assistant how it worked and she told me it was already done. I was holding the card above the machine while deciding whether to use Tap and Go and it made the decision for me. Very fast. Jen (38)
