| 1362128 | 2013-12-10 01:58:00 | Hello I have a iPhone 5, Ipod touch and a iPod nano. No I am not a apple junkie, I just happen to have them. And I cant consolidate into one device for now. To simplfy music I have created separate Windows login ID to represent each iDevice so it doesn't synch and get confused if I Synch all iDevices under one Windows login using iTunes. Is this the best way to go ? Or is the some setting under iTunes that I can tweak to tell what to do when each device is connected and what all various media to synch up Also media bought from apple store, how many devices can you put them on using your one single apple ID ? I suppose I can go thru Apple KB but I thought to ask here first since I can get some real world examples of people have setup theirs in similar situation |

| 1362129 | 2013-12-10 02:08:00 | Ok I guess after a brief search, iCloud is the way to go for synching up all music to show up on all your iDevices. But this seems to only synch iTunes store bought media. I guess for all other music content that are manually put on iDevice, they cant be auto synched to all iDevices, you will have to manually copy it ? |

| 1362130 | 2013-12-10 02:35:00 | You could use Google Play Music? That works on iDevices now too, allows you to pin things independently to different devices, up to 10 devices! Don't have to use the "paid" one either, the free stuff should work just fine with all your iTunes and non-iTunes purchased music :) Up to 20,000 songs I believe? | Chilling_Silence (9) | ||

Thanks for this suggestion. I will look into this option. Also the KB article from Apple was very good. It looks like I can connect different iDevices and sync up music independently for each device without having to create multiple Windows user accounts. I have a 3rd generation iPod that has music on it and now I have a 7th generation iPod which has some music on it. I want to "transfer" some or all of the music from 3rd Gen iPod to the new iPod. According to Apple I can create a new playlist and sync say the 3rd Gen Ipod to it so music fro this ipod goes to the playlist. Then I can presumably transfer from the playlist manually to the new iPod. OR I can create a new iTunes library folder for each device.I don't know which would be a better option. I am not sure how the new iTunes library folder works. Do you see 2 sets of media library in iTunes or do you select which library when you go to start iTunes program. Has anyone done this setup ? I don't want to mess up my music collection and then spend hours fixing it so I m bit leery even though instructions from apple seem to be straightforward. |

I need to transfer music from my old 3rd Gen iPod to the new 7th gen iPod. And the second article covers synching selective songs from existing library to iPod. I tried the Apple suggested option of synching one iPod device to a separate playlist. Although the playlist is only specific to that device. I can then take music of that playlist and then add it to my new iPod. I guess I now realize that you can "transfer" your music from one iPod to another unless all the music is purchased from iTunes! And I get it why, so people don't just copy someone else's music to their iPod....the whole piracy deal etc However these are my 2 iPods and the older one has tons of music, most I didn't purchase from iTunes but they are simply music that I had ripped from MY CDs This sucks! |

And I get it why, so people don't just copy someone else's music to their iPod....the whole piracy deal etc Yup, that was pretty much a requirement of Apple and iTunes that was dictated by the music industry - rather than Apple wanting to restrict what we do with music after we have purchased it. In the music industries eyes, all we have really done when we buy music is buy the "right to listen to it". According to the music industry we are not allowed to rebroadcast that music in a work place or "share" the track or CD with friends. That equates to piracy. Transfer music from CD to iTunes support.apple.com Move music from iPod to new computer ( This might do the trick) support.apple.com Personally I'd love to tell those b*****s where to stick their arcane requirements. When I found the second article I was searching under "how to synch selected playlist on ipod + iphone" |

| 1362137 | 2013-12-10 07:52:00 | I think the main thing you need to do is set the app store and itunes store to use the same icloud id. They can be seperate for email etc, but the purchasing of apps and music should be done under one. Then with audomatic downloads set, then they'll all download the new apps and music as purchased. For anything local if it's in itunes it can be sync'd but connecting to the machine with itunes installed. After the first cabled sync, you can most likely sync local content via wifi. |
