1362073 2013-12-09 05:25:00 Just browsing my new laptop and see in My PC that the hard drive is almost full. (1.19Gb left of 443Gb)
This is Win 8.1. I have just removed the Shell app that I had as training wheels.

I found something that in properties shows it is 372Gb (3590F75ABA9E485486C100C1A9D4FF06K)

Does this mean anything to anyone or is it normal?

1362076 2013-12-09 07:31:00 That file in Brackets, sounds like a install file, but shouldn't be that large.

Try this: ( with Pictures)

Go to the Start screen, type Disk Cleanup, click on the single one that shows:

5362

Next window, select Free up disk space etc:

5363

Disk Cleanup will open, it will take a few moments, but once it opens, select Clean Up system Files:

5364

Disk Cleanup will close and reopen by its self, once open scroll through, and look at what you can delete.

Look for one that thats says Windows.old, ( it will be near the end of the list) this a copy of your Old W8 install. As long as all your programs, files etc are all working its usually save to delete it, select it, along with Anything else you like.

Click OK and let it do its thing, it will take a few minutes, once done reboot then have a look at the amount of space used.

The Classic Shell you installed /removed "shouldn't" have created a large file like that. Personally I dont use it, I learn the systems.

1362077 2013-12-09 17:55:00 Thanks wainuitech.
I now have 373Gb free of 443Gb. That looks more normal.
I installed Classic Shell initially because I didn't have the time to learn the new system as I need the computer for urgent work.
Once the panic was over I removed it (I think) and am now struggling to find my way around W8.1.

1362078 2013-12-09 20:12:00 When you click the start button and then click the arrow below the start screen icons that takes you to the all apps screen you get a graphical list of everything in alphabetical order that replaces the old start menu, where's the struggle? :p dugimodo (138)

5365.

Trust me after a while right clicking W8.1 start, you get into the habit on other computers as well, esp to turn off - OOPS :o

1362080 2013-12-09 22:25:00 Hi Wai I asked this question about a WD 750gig external drive, but can't locate it on here.

What the WD is full of is anyone's guess, but there wouldn't be that much space taken up with the amount showing on the C:.

The PC is from my son-in-law and there are two backup programs: FBackup and AceBackup, which I have never used, prefer to Copy and Paste myself.

Thanks for any suggestions Wai.

1362081 2013-12-09 23:50:00 Lurking, What you can try -- Up top, clcik on Tools / Folder options / view Tab Under Hidden Files and Folders select "Show Hidden Files,Folders or drives", you can also Untick, Hide protected Operating system Files.

This will show Or should show all files on that drive, maybe something will show whats using all the space. Just be VERY careful as you can delete important files/folders in not careful - this is why they are hidden.
