1361376 2013-12-01 19:27:00 Hi Guys
I am working on a friends laptop with Window 8.
It crashed and we are trying to reinstall her Canon MG 5150 printer/scanner.

I am having all sorts of problems.

First when I installed the CD and it started installing it stopped with a message about turning the Print Spooler on.

After a while I found out how to do this and it went further.

Now it is coming up with a message about MP drivers.

But I cannot find out how to get past this.

I have uninstalled and restarted several times.

I have had similar problems trying to re-install Brother laser printers.!

1361377 2013-12-01 19:52:00 Using Windows 8 drivers?

Are you doing a standard install or custom? If custom, you need the MP drivers selected. Personally, I have most of the components installed except some of the web doodads and image apps.

1361378 2013-12-01 19:59:00 You did make sure the Printer is Not connected before trying to install Drivers ??

Most problems are caused by either out of date or corrupted drivers, something trying to use the printer while its connected. Had that with a HP the other day, it was actually the wireless causing problems, turned it off and they installed instantly.

You may have some other issues with that PC/laptop, print spooler should be on by default.

Unplug the printer & dont plug it back in untill the install software tells you to.

Are there Win8 drivers on that CD ?? possibly not unless the printer is very new.
How is the printer connected, USB, network cable or wifi ??

1361380 2013-12-01 20:22:00 I'm not sure about the CD how old it is etc.

I have never installed a printer form other than a CD.

Can I just download the latest driver from Canon and run it from the hard drive ?

1361381 2013-12-01 20:32:00 Yup you can download the driver. I dont install the program from CD. Since its probably out of date. And yup, make sure you connect the printer/turn it on when the install tells you to. Dont connect it / turn it on. Otherwise the install can screw up Speedy Gonzales (78)

1361383 2013-12-02 17:47:00 Thanks guys
I downloaded the MP driver and the printer driver.
And as you said I installed the MP driver first, then the printer driver and it worked first time.
