235199 2004-05-08 04:07:00 Yes this is yet another thread about Telecom! A few days ago I was sent a txt from Telecom saying that last month I had sent 501 national person to person txts, just over the new txt cap of 500 / month. To my surprise my girlfriend had sent the exact same number of txts! Then I found out that some of my workmates had also been sent the same txt, saying that they had sent 501 txts.

It seems that every Telecom user that sent over 500 texts last month, has been sent a txt from Telecom saying that they sent 501 texts last month.

I think this is a deliberate tactic of Telecom's to curb the rising anger in the wake of the text cap. If this is the case, it is dishonest, misleading and surely illegal?

Thoughts?

In what way would it be illegal?

235201 2004-05-08 04:17:00 Giving false information about a customers account? I'm not sure how it could be illegal, but at the very lest it's un-ethical. promethius (1998)
235202 2004-05-08 04:19:00 Did you send more than 500? If so, how is this "dishonest, misleading, and surely illegal"?

You should be grateful to be told the moment that you are going to be spending real money on your, doubtless essential, messages without which civilisation as we know it will decay and die. ;-)

Well, that suggests to me that rather than trying to extract precise numbers and customise every message (which would be out of date by the time it hit a serial txter) they simply programmed a flag to warn every user when they exceeded 500 messages.

To me this is simply good business courtesy, whereas truly hard-nosed commercial attitudes would have said "let them txt on unaware, we make more money that way."

Telecom bashing is getting tiresome, it is utterly pointless, and there would be few people who ever went into business without the intention to make as much profit as possible.

IMHO if you didn't need to make 500+ phone calls or send 500+ faxes or emails a month for business reasons then txting is a time and money wasting fad. It is useful in some circumstances, but for most it is simply a fashion accessory and will probably die the same painful death that all other fads do, leaving a hard core of total addicts and a few genuine users.

Of course that is only my opinion, and I could be wrong, but I operate a txt-free business in a txt-free office, live in a txt-free home and have a txt-free wife and txt-free children. Surprisingly, we are all thriving without a txt in sight.?:|

*sigh* I guess we just don't know what joys we are missing.:|

Cheers

235205 2004-05-08 04:33:00 You have it completley wrong!

Telecom arent sending a txt when you exceed 500. They are telling there customers that they have only sent 501 texts (the month previous), when in fact they could have sent a large number more.

235206 2004-05-08 04:38:00 So bloody what? They told you that you perpetrated more than 500. They aren't charging yet, are they?

Doubtless the message will be revised if necessary. But why tell us about it? I, for one, don't care. If it upsets you that much, tell Telecom.

No he doesn't .

Correct, they might have sent a large number more - the tactic is more to warn users that if they send a similar amount this month, they might be hit with a bill to pay for the excess txts .

Just stop txting - its a waste of time and money . Try talking some time - it can actually be quite refreshing :)
