235588 2004-05-11 00:31:00 I've always pronounced Linux as "Lie-nix", but somebody else I know pronounced it as "Lin-nooks"

Which is the commonly accepted pronunciation?

235589 2004-05-11 00:41:00 I'd go for "Linnucks".

If we are talking about pronunciation - how about these:

Lingerie - Larnjeray or Larnjeree?

Supplejack - Suppeljack or Soopeljack?

Basic - Bassic or Baysic?

I could go on... (and on, and on) ;\

235591 2004-05-11 00:56:00 if you do a search of the internet, maybe this forum even, you will find a wav of the dude himself say it and then you can be happy. robsonde (120)
235592 2004-05-11 01:38:00 As a Linux user, I pronounce Linux as Linnix :p

I have an official sound bite of Linus Torvalds himself saying Linux, and to my ears it sounds like Linnix - so I am sticking to that :D

You can read a debate about the correct pronounciation here (www.linuxgazette.com)

235593 2004-05-11 01:38:00 I suppose the correct pronunciation should be however you say Linus, as Linux is the creation of Linus Torvalds. Any Finnish people out there? :-) parry (27)
235594 2004-05-11 01:41:00 oops didnt see your post Jen. :-) parry (27)
