235322 2004-05-08 17:35:00 Is it possible to convert an LCD from a notebook to use as a PC monitor?
I have a 5 year old notebook; the 15" screen is still good. One hinge has already broken off - fortunately not the one with the wires. I thought I could remove it completely and find the wires to attach a plug so I could use it with a desktop PC. Any ideas?

235323 2004-05-08 20:46:00 if you're fortunate enough to find a pinout schema for the lcd monitor then yes.. otherwise you could try the old hit and miss method (hint: first step is to get power going) whetu (237)
235324 2004-05-08 22:17:00 I I asked the same thing a while ago - and was told "It is possible - but there are many problems"
I was qouted this by Billy T
"Sorry, not impossible but not practicable for reasons too many/complex to list here. laptop screens are intended for use with laptops and their own integrated electronics."

But don't let me put you off - there a heaps of articles on the net (do a google) that will expain how to do this - but if i remeber correctly - only some models are capable of being hooked up to the pc, and these models are hard to find.

Let me know how you get on

235325 2004-05-08 22:51:00 Laptop screens are digitally driven from proprietary on-board digital interfaces, so trying to interface to DVI or VGA requires a very high level of understanding of how its been done in the laptop, and possibly the construction of a custom interface. godfather (25)

235327 2004-05-10 05:05:00 Actually I saw somwthing (a program) that lets 1 PC use another PC's screen as it's own.

I think I saw it in the latest issue of PCWorld, but i'm not sure
