235805 2004-05-11 09:10:00 I understand this can be a common problem, are there any solutions? Data transfer rates of only 100 to 150 Mbps making it almost impossible to Ghost 11 Gbs C: drive to a backup drive in the same box. Pentium4, 3000Ghz, 1 Gb Ram. Tried various switches but no difference. C: is a SATA drive into the MB socket. Backup drive is also SATA & is plugged into a Raid Card as there are no spare sockets on the MB. Not using Raid card as an Array.

Any suggestions most appreciated

235806 2004-05-11 09:31:00 I use Casper to ghost one drive to another. www.fssdev.com

I get a transfer rate of around 500mb/s with both an internal drive to internal drive and an external usb2 drive. You can download a trial version.

235807 2004-05-11 10:26:00 Are you compressing the image Sergio? 11 GB is a hell of a lot of data and if you are compressing on the fly that will slow things down a lot.

Have a look at This site (ghost.radified.com/) and This one too (http:) you may find some answers. I haven't had time to go through them for ideas on your problem but help may be just two mouse-clicks away.

Cheers

235808 2004-05-12 00:19:00 Billy T: I am using the Fast setting so there is some compression.

Why does Ghost start working at a high speed (in this case around 800 Mps and then drop back over the next few minutes to about 100 Mps. If I could stop it dropping back the times would be acceptable.

235809 2004-05-12 00:29:00 I mean MB per minute (not per second!!) Sergio (928)
235810 2004-05-12 01:01:00 Are you using a SATA drive? what about VIA Chipset on motherboard.

I have not yet been able to ghost SATA drives at over 150MB per minute consistantly. using different drive manufacturers.

On Via Motherboards I get the same result, on any SIS or intel chipset I have been able to get between 500 and 1200 mb /min. upper limit on PIII, P4 and AMD chips.

235811 2004-05-12 02:50:00 C: is SATA and is the one that is very slow to Ghost
D: is a SATA and contains data files only
E: is also a SATA and is the backup. It also holds the Ghost images.

C is plugged into the MB socket
D: is plugged into a SI Sil 3112 SataRaid Controller (socket 1)
E: is plugged into the same controller, (socket 2)
There is no Raid Array configured, used as a means of plugging in the extra SATA drives.

I have copied below the other configuration settings as reported by Sandra 2004.

I appreciate your assistance.

235812 2004-05-12 07:49:00 No I have no reason for the slow copy of the data other than the fact that there is SATA involved, which is a killer of time. Enjoy the free night that it would take to copy 11GB of data, go to a movie, enjoy dinner and see if it finished by breakfast.

Sorry unable to help any further but at least this post will pop up to the top of the table so others can see it.
