236631 2004-05-14 09:37:00 Hi.
I bought one of the above because the link between my digital camera and the USB port on the PC has blown up. I have checked, reinstalled the software, tried another cable etc. Nothing worked. Hence the above as a means of getting JPEGS out of my camera onto the PC. The USB ports work fine with the scanner etc.
The problem is that the card reader comes with two cables, marked USB 1 and USB 2, and I need to plug them into my motherboard. The DSE installation manual says to consult my motherboard's manual. I don't have one.

Rightclicking on my computer tells me that I have a (old) x86 family 6 model 7 stepping 2 AT/At Compatible motherboard.
There are a heap of empty plugs down at the bottom of the motherboard where the speaker etc. plugs in, but I am fearful that if i just start plugging and trying (as is my nature) I will blow something up.

Any ideas anyone?

236632 2004-05-14 09:51:00 What make and model of PC? (or is it an unbranded one)?

Failing that you will need to scour the motherboard for a make and model. Without a manual you can't make those guesses.

Once the motherboard make and model is known, a manual can usually be downloaded.

236633 2004-05-14 09:58:00 Thanks. It is unbranded.
It says FCGA-6BXC , is that any use to me?

236635 2004-05-14 11:35:00 That's fantastic. Many Thanks.
It looks like i have to disconnect the 2 usb ports at the back of the Pc to connect my card reader into their slots. (card reader has 1 usb slot built into it), Does that sound right?

236636 2004-05-14 12:10:00 Very likely.

Is your motherboard USB 2.0? I suspect its only USB 1.1?

I *assume* the flash reader is 1.1 compatable, but they are USB 2.0 by design?
