236275 2004-05-13 22:06:00 Hi Team

Just a quick update. I am not used to detecting anything other than Alexis or the odd dataminer so 215 hits threw me a bit.

Spybot 1.3 appears to be unable to delete two items, Huntbar and DSO Exploit. The program advised rebooting and rescanning, which appeared to get rid of DSO Exploit, but when I rebooted and rescanned they were both detected again.

The computer is now running normally, and since two is a whole heap better than 215 I'm not going to worry about it, but I'd be interested in any comments from more experienced users.

Cheers

Boy, did I ever pick the wrong time to complain about
Spybot! :8}
Whoever would have guessed that they would be
releasing V1.3 right when I hit the keyboard.:(

My worst is 380-something on a clients PC... Shocking....

Seems odd, DSO exploit is usually fixed upon reboot. Ive not encountered Huntbar, but it sounds like Hotbar....
Sometimes the best way is to boot into Safe Mode to get rid of all last little traces if its memory-resident.

215 sounds about right if you've not used Spybot in a couple of months.

Ive not tried 1.3 Final (Not at work, have no need on my PC :D) but in 1.3 rc3 you have a memory-resident sheild called teatimer IIRC. This is excellent in preventing Spyware from ever getting through!
Dont forget to Immunize your PC also!

That's life though, but what are your thoughts on Spybot compared to Ad-Aware?

Chill.

236277 2004-05-13 22:14:00 Billy, Try SpywareBlaster. It's on one of the cover disks. It's supposed to stop the spyware getting in. It actually works. :-)

Spybot implemented this in 1.3 rc3, and its a damn good implementation. Really shows you how good software is supposed to work.

As does this :-) Stops entries to your startup etc... Havent used it too much, but so far it seems pretty cool :-)

236279 2004-05-13 22:49:00 Try to keep in mind too, that the developer of the Spybot program does it in his spare time, along with some "volunteers" and is keeping it free for all people.

Had an instant to verify what you want to know also BillyT, V1.2 showed the system clean, but 1.3 picked up another 4 baddies. So I'm guessing that along with the program development, updates were done.

If you have a good look around 1.3 as well, you will find a lot more "tools" which are extremely handy.

And Spybot 1.3 Final, came out a couple of days ago, so you can update if you have one of the RC versions.

236280 2004-05-14 02:18:00 May I suggest that whatever version of Spybot you have uninstall it then do a clean instal of 1.3 Final. I went from 1.1 to 1.2 to 1.3rc4 to 1.3rc5. After downloading 1.3 Final did a check and found 1.1 and 1.3rc5 in Control Panel, the program that opened was listed as 1.3rc4, C: listed 1.2 and 1.3rc5. Suggest also do a Reg Clean, mine picked up all sorts of odd Spybot entries after the uninstal FrankS (257)

Well chill, I use both on all my computers, and I always run Adaware first followed by Spybot, for no other reason than I prefer the Adaware interface. I like the look of it, I found it more intuitive to set up, and it's faster to operate (for me anyway).

Spybot 1.2 had an annoying way of opening minimised to the quick-launch tray?? then hibernating there for several seconds before finally appearing on screen, though I must say that 1.3 does not display that irritating habit. I do prefer Spybot's default checking of all found items for deletion, and I haven't stumbled on how to do a "select all" in Adaware yet, but I presume it is there somewhere.

I rarely find anything at all on any of my computers so I can't say which one picks up what. Maybe I'll reverse the order for a while and see what happens.

Cheers

I think it is in the paid version of Adaware. ;-)
