2004-05-13 09:34:00 | I'm unable to open or even copy a number of files on my hard-disk; I get the message "Access is Denied". All appear to be Word files, but are randomly distributed between directories, dates etc. The only possible reason I can think that this might have happened is that I have changed the whole hard-disk to 'shared' staus for use on an ad-hoc wireless network. All files are listed with attribute "a" and are the same as files which are perfectly OK in this respect. I've seen some correspondence on this all of which relates to XP Pro - but I'm using XP Home. Any ideas on how I can overcome this problem? Could it be part of the hrad-disk has somehow become corrupted? Any ideas would be welcomed ... Thanks

2004-05-14 01:24:00 | Yep - MS Word is installed as part of Office97. I do have file extensions shown - none of the files show double extensions

2004-05-14 02:35:00 | A really really long shot here - I don't think it will make any difference but it wouldn't hurt to try - is to find and rename the normal.dot file to normal.old. Ensure Word is closed first though. | Susan B (19) | |
2004-05-14 04:02:00 | Have these files been accessed through the wireless network. If they haven't been released properly they might be locked out. I don't know if the Windows wireless software/OS filesystem locks files so only one user can modify them at once. It should. ;-) | Graham L (2) | |
2004-05-14 04:06:00 | Nope - tried that, but still can't access the relevant files! Thanks for trying ....
