236218 2004-05-13 08:17:00 I've never updated Office 2000 on my home pc, and now that I come to do it I find that the file size is huge and will take hours on my dialup modem. I thought for a while that o2ksr1a.exe was the update I needed first, but it turns out to be just the setup.

Can I get the file I need off a CD or download it quickly at work, or is using my home pc and the internet the only way?

Thanks,

Peter

236219 2004-05-13 08:31:00 Office Service Pack 3 was on the May 2003 PC World CD if you have access to a copy of that. I would think that update would include all the previous updates as well.

It may be available at your library if you do not have it yourself.

They have been included on numerous magazine CDs over the last few years though.

236221 2004-05-13 09:00:00 From what I've read, sr1a is *not* on any cd, only the setup file is. So what I want to know is, can I download the complete file on another computer with broadband and then install it, or am I stuck with the long download?

236222 2004-05-13 10:16:00 you can download the whole patch ...the whole 50 meg of it. have a search in ms downloads site. you then can go and install sr3 (sr2 not required) which is only 13 meg. tweak'e (174)
236223 2004-05-13 10:31:00 You know what you state from "what you have read" . Fair enough .

I only know that SR1a, all 52 MB of it, is on some CDs .

Not an install program of a few kB, but all 52 MB . (52,556 kB with a file date of 28/08/2001 to be precise, in case you doubt)

It also states that "This release Includes enhancements for Office 2000 and is a prerequisite for installing Office 2000 Service Pack 2"

SP 2 of 8,972 kB states that "Service Pack 2 (SP2) for Office 2000 provides a collection of fixes and security updates designed to improve the performance and reliability of your applications . While SP2 provides many benefits, it is an optional release and is not required to maintain the current functionality of your applications"

PC Authority December 2001 magazine CD had it, and likely many others since, such as APC Magazine August 2001 . And others .

I have again checked the contents of these CD's and assure you that the files are there . I do try to be accurate .

So I don't understand your question . Get the file on a CD if you can . Its not compulsory to download it .

From experience I can also suggest you really should load SR1a . Its essential, and I am surprised you have not needed it before now . There are many known bugs that need fixing . SR2 is less important .

236224 2004-05-13 22:15:00 Thanks for your help. I'll try to find it on a CD. My attempts to download it overnight last night met with failure. I did read on some news groups that it was only available via the internet, but not from any official source. Petermcc (5246)
236225 2004-05-13 23:50:00 If you get stuck, post a disposable email address back here.

I can burn a copy of SR1 and SR2 post it to you, as I own the CDs referred to above.
