| 236852 | 2004-05-15 11:16:00 | I'm trying to set up Mercury Mail to act as a very simple mail server (see this thread (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz)). I can get Mercury to send emails from within itself and pick them up via Outlook. It looks like I can send emails from my backup application and have them processed by Mercury (if I understand the logs correctly). But I can't get Outlook to receive those messages. Whatever I do with Outlook, it always asks me for a logon and password for the server, and I am not sure what logon and password it is actually wanting. Also in Mercury, I have set up two users, apparently in the same way, but Mercury also says there is a password error when trying to process stuff from one of them. I really don't know what is happening, and hope there is someone out there who has a clue and can help me. TIA Tony Bacon |

| 236853 | 2004-05-15 14:49:00 | I've only been near a Mercury Mail server once for about 20 minutes whilst I was troubleshooting it's inability to POP a mail account. I'm not overtly familiar with the setup, but the areas I accessed were reasonably intuitive and the documentation was quite good. You might need to be a touch more specific with the issue. Are you getting the password request when you try to receive or send mail with Outlook? Do you have secure password authentication enabled in Outlook, I'd disable that, and disable authentication for sending as well if it is. Just a few thoughts. |

| 236854 | 2004-05-16 06:25:00 | I've made a bit of progress since my first post - I actually have managed to get a message from end to end! However the problem now seems to be that it is erratic - it worked once, but hasn't worked since - with no changes to the setup. Any ideas there? I agree that Mercury seems to be the clearest of the apps I've tried. I think my problem is a basic lack of knowledge/understanding about mail setup. Mercury like the other apps assumes a basic level of understanding that I don't seem to have. :( |
