236766 2004-05-15 03:53:00 A disk created in the desktop computer can't be read by Windows on the Presario 3003 notebook.
Both have Roxio Version 6 Platinum as software
The burner on the desktop is a Nec ND1100A and the burner in the notebook is a Toshiba ODD- DVD SD R6252.

236767 2004-05-15 04:30:00 Oh dear . :_| Unfortunately, we can't blame Windows for this one . ;-)

You have hit the DVD non-standard . Manufactures are not driven by the welfare of their customers; they are in it for the money . Compatibility? Standards?

Your NEC drive is a DVD+RW . Your Toshiba is a DVD-RW . See the difference?

About the first link you get from "ND1100a dvd" in Google will explain . . .

236768 2004-05-15 05:05:00 Thanks Graham. This makes sense. I will have to buy a DVD-RW disk pebesoft (5524)
236769 2004-05-15 05:33:00 I found info that the Toshiba drive accepts DVD+RW

236770 2004-05-15 07:32:00 Good spot Graham. :-)

Pebesoft, you may want to have a quick look at the manufacturers site for a firmware update. Sometimes manuf. add extra functionality such as the ability to read other types of discs. If you do find one then be careful the update is for your specific model and follow instructions carefully. You can of course just use the right discs. ;-)

Unfortunately DVD-R and DVD+R media suffers the same brand issues as CD-R/RW media where one brand will work and another wont. Same deal with DVD-ROM & stand alone DVD players. To save making coasters have a look at readers comments on whether particular brands worked for them on www.videohelp.com
