| 237007 | 2004-05-16 14:03:00 | Hey guys, finally I can log in to F1, I've been trying all day :( Anyways, just a quick power management question? I've been using Windows 2000 Pro for a long while and I've recently upgraded my OS to XP Home (OEM). When I was running 2K if I put my PC into standby mode the system would shut down and the PSU would go off, all I had to do then was click my mouse button and the system would startup again, with the login screen. With XP Home however, when I put the system into standby mode everything shuts down (GUI is closed and the monitor switches off), but the PSU does not switch off!!! Does anyone know why this is so? Do I need to install Windows Power Management software or something? Admittedly I could get by with just shutting down the PC completely but I would prefer not to have to reboot continuously. cheers chiefnz |

If so, you're in the standby mode. If the fans are running you might need to set something in the OS. Perhaps W2000 assumes a single processor system, and the XP allows for multiprocessors. In a multiprocessor system, it's not a good idea for one processor to just say "shut down" to the PSU. Another processor might still need it, and you didn't really want the reacter to melt down. :D |
