237526 2004-05-18 10:41:00 An interesting news article at CRN about the kibuv.b worm (www.crn.com). Only really of interest if you were wondering ( like me :D ) why there seemed to be so much more activity on port 5000 :)

This worm exploits a vulnerability that Microsoft patched back in 2001 :)

237527 2004-05-18 10:53:00 Check this Link (grc.com) out.

I've used this on my system (XP Pro) since I heard about the problem.

Cheers Lucy :)

237528 2004-05-18 17:33:00 Steve Gibson of GRC fame warned MS about UPnP before they shipped XP but MS chose to ignore the warning and shipped XP with it enabled. There would be a very small percentage of PC's that would require it. mikebartnz (21)
237529 2004-05-18 22:50:00 Is it really that much of a problem?

I understood upnp needed to be enabled to allow voice/video with MSN/Windows Messenger.

On the other hand it isnt needed with Yahoo Messenger.
