237324 2004-05-18 15:31:00 Amazed to find a real sub in our midst . . . a man who knows about tautology & can actually spell . .

It makes me all nostalgic for my print journalism days .

Mind you, the hardened subs I remember would never have made the corrections with such good nature . My first Chief Sub reduced cadets to tears occasionally . Today's "adventurous" grammar & spelling would've given him apoplexy .

But you're not like that, are you? You even let Bruce away with his spelling mistakes in this thread . . . .

(Oops - Sorry, Bruce . I know you have greater talents . . . )

237327 2004-05-20 14:45:00 Ah . there's the priority/age problem .

So what's Total Annihilation? (No, don't tell me . I can guess . . . )

I love this man .

Fortunately, it can never be . . . . .

I'm already spoken for - as no doubt he is too .

Doesn't change my delight that you have an educated-in-the-English-language-person on your staff .

Thre's not a lot of it about nowadays .

237328 2004-05-21 05:37:00 Not so fast . The quote below comes from www . impact-english . com

"Capitalization

When and what should you capitalize in written English?

Capitalize proper names and (usually) their derivatives and shortened forms .

What is a derivative? It is a word, for example an adjective, which comes from another word . The adjective English is derived from England and both are capitalized . "

Makes sense to me . "english" just doesn't look right to me in any context or part of speech .

237329 2004-05-21 06:01:00 >Capitalization

Yes - well that kind of says it all really though doesn't it? This from the country where people spell colour as "color" and labour as "labor". Are you really going to take their word for it?? Good grief - they can't even spell capitalisation correctly!

:-)

237330 2004-05-21 08:01:00 Hasn't capitalisation got something to do with economics? Chris Randal (521)
