237430 2004-05-18 06:41:00 Jareemon, you have been given some advice on your problem (some in a round-about way).

You should also check your phone line for line interference (called Telecom 123 for this) and also make sure your phone leads are secure and you are not using an extra long phone extension cord. Have you tried reinstalling the modem drivers? As already mentioned, you may need to slow your modem down. You can find instructions on how to do this here (www.ihug.co.nz).

10 metres is very long. Can you move the computer to the phone jack for a short time and plug it in using a standard lead? This should show up whether your extension lead lenght is a factor.

237433 2004-05-18 09:03:00 Would you like to explain what you did to slow your modem down, it may not be doing what you think. Jim B (153)

237435 2004-05-18 12:56:00 As Jim rightly guessed, that won't have done much, if anything at all to slow the modem down.

Post the make/model of the Modem (grab that by Right-Clicking your connection and selecting Properties - let us know what is says under "Connect Using"

Chances are there is an initialisation string that may stabilise your modem.

237436 2004-05-18 20:56:00 Al that does is adjust your port speed it does not affect the modem speed.

You will need to add a modem string in extra setting under Advanced
Post your modem type and model as per WTF request as the string that is used must be correct for the modem type.

Can be, Jared, extension cords rarely use twisted pairs so they are much more susceptible to interference and also to other effects that may not affect both lines equally. Not good on modems, probably worse on ADSL.

Coiling or bundling up any slack will make matters worse.
