237558 2004-05-18 12:16:00 Hi All

Most consumer electronics (PDAs, DVD Players . . . ) have the CE symbol printed on the chassis, instruction manual etc . What does this stand for, mean, imply??

Thanks

237559 2004-05-18 12:22:00 2 seconds with google.....

All electrical devices sold in the European Union (EU) must be manufactured corresponding to the state of electrical safety technology and must not endanger persons or property when being used correctly.

By attaching the CE symbol to the product, the manufacturer is confirming that its product conforms with the requirements corresponding with the EU guidelines applicable for the product, in particular, that all safety requirements have been met. In addition, the observance of the applicable standards is documented in the form of a written CE conformity declaration.

Damn it. You're not supposed to tell them about Google... if everyone knows then we will have lost our edge.

Lose our edge? I would be more concerned about losing Press F1 because nobody would need it anymore....... ;-)

If thats your primary concern thats a bit of a worry... maybe there is a need for an addiction clinic for some of the people around here.

What are the CE specs?

237564 2004-05-19 05:53:00 Impossible question .

Each particular item falls under a specific category, each category has a set of Standards to adhere to for CE certification .

Obviously your leather jacket would have a different set of tests to your keyboard as an example .

"CE" (Certified Europe) is a mark applied to an end-use product certifying that the product meets "applicable directives" . CE is the result of the "harmonisation" or unification of European safety and other standards .

Each type of end-use equipment has "applicable directives" which must be met in order to display the CE mark .

So there are no single tests for all products . There are a huge range of tests for some products and sod all for others .
