Somehow after someone else used my pc many of icons disappeared to be replaced by just a generic symbol. How do I restore them? I have tried going to "Properties" "change icon" and although the original icon appears there choosing it achieves no change. It will only let me choose another different icon. |

Try this right-click in the desktop, choose "Active Desktop", and UNcheck "Show Web Content". may work? |

sorry meant right click desktop and under arrange icons by see if there is a tick beside show desktop icons |

It would help if you mentioned your os.
TweakUI for XP has an option to rebuild desktop which should sort it. |
