237092 2004-05-17 05:37:00 Hi - I have just done a system restore and noticed there was a system checkpoint for the 22 May 04. I have not noticed this before, is this normal to have a checkpoint before the day has even been???

Thanks Bug :)

237093 2004-05-17 05:44:00 Would only happen if the date was screwed at some stage.

That could compromise your restore system I believe, as we approach and pass that that date. I would purge all restore points and start again.

This is accomplished by turning off system restore, restarting and turning it back on.

Then create a new restore point.

Right click on My Computer, go to Properties>System Restore and put a tick in "Turn off system restore on all drives". Click OK, reboot your computer and put the tick back in again. Click OK again and you're done. :-)

Infact, i don't even use system restore, something goes wrong i reinstall (even if all it needed was a driver)

Nope, only if you know that you have a virus that you would do that :)

Hope this helps

237100 2004-05-17 10:53:00 Turning system off deletes the virus that was in one or more of your restore points so it will now be gone. Doing another scan now would probably be good just for piece of mind. gerrypics (323)
237101 2004-05-17 13:04:00 In my opinion system restore is a waste of space & also slows the system.

Reinstalling is also not to be taken lightly, after you have installed Windows, you then have to reinstall your software, your Motherboard drivers, SP1, Firewall, Anti Virus, etc, etc.

Much better to use Norton Ghost & make an image of your primary partition, when you have everything right. You can then reinstall the whole of your "C" drive in a few minutes. You can place the Image file on another partition, then copy it to CD's if you wish. You can instruct Ghost to split the files to fit on CD's.
