2004-05-20 19:11:00 | After downloading, installing, then uninstalling SimAquarium screensaver because it played havoc with my desktop, booting my favorite picture out and leaving with no picture, my THotkey has a problem. Not a virus or adware. Nortons, Ad-aware,Spybot all say computer is clean. Update these programs weekly. I have a Toshiba Satellite Notebook, running Windows XP. Computer loads up great. It's when I press a key or whatever program I am about to go into that a TouchEd error comes up, stating "Retrieval of THotkey failed. Error code: 0x00031402, 0x00000002." Have checked the Net. One forum site mentioned downloading a PowrProf.dll as it might be missing or corrupt, but my error code didn't mention that, so thought I'd check it out with F1 before going to a Service dept to get it fixed. They did say that their Fn keys didn't work, so I checked mine and they're not working. Rest of computer is working well. Any help would be appreciated. Marg.

2004-05-22 10:48:00 | Thanks Godfather. According to Computerland I can't use the Recovery disk to get the file, but for $60 they will check my computer out, and if its not covered under the warranty they'll give me a quote of what it will cost to repair it. Went to the Toshiba website and will pick up 2 of their files. One is toshbia utilities for A10 series, other is toshiba Hotkey utiliy for display devices. One of them should be right. One thing about computer problems, is the amount you learn about your equipment which is good from a confidence point of view. Have a good week. Marg.

2004-05-26 05:09:00 | All is well with my world again. If anyone else has same " THotkey "retrieval error that I got after booting up, on my Toshiba satellite, go to Toshiba download page as Godfather said. The file I downloaded was Toshiba Common Modules, a toshiba component. For WinXP, on A10 toshiba series = A10TCMXP.exe. There are lots of files to choose from, but the above one sorted it all out. Went to Windows Add or Remove Programs via Control Panel, and removed Toshiba Hotkey utility for Display devices and Toshiba Utilities. Unzipped that single file download and ran setup, restarted and Bingo! The tech guys at Toshiba NZ were so friendly and helpful, just like the ones who reply to all the pleas for help in this column.

Before clicking on Godfathers link, ensure you have cookies and scripting enabled or the dropdown boxes in the download centre will not show up. OK, once you have clicked on the above link, select "Support" in the column on the top left column on that page. Next, select download centre [will click on "more on this selection" in red]. This brings you to a page where, under products, you select your PC eg, Notebook, then the Family, eg. Satellite, then the Series, eg A10. Then click on Go and it takes you do a page of drivers that you can download for your notebook or whatever you have. Make sure you pick the drivers that go with your OS, shows in the left hand column. I downloaded 5 drivers and keep them in a folder on my Desktop. These are the ones Toshiba Support recommended to use. Said you usually only needed the first 3, and if that didn't work use the other 2 as well. Toshiba Common Modules A10TCMxp.exe 1.48MB Toshiba Utilities A10TutilsXP.exe 2.59MB Toshiba Hotkey Utility A10DisphotXP.exe 43.62KB Toshiba Touchpad ON/OFF utility A10MouseUtilXP.exe 1.18MB Alps Pointing Device Driver A10MouseDriverXP.exe 1.95MB Hope that helps. |

2006-05-01 22:32:00 | I'm receiving the same the "Thotkey" error message with my Toshiba Satellite S 1405 171 laptop. Even after downloading the s500dhlx.exe file from the Toshiba sight the problem still exists. Could you tell me if there is another utility file that I should download and run as well? Thank you Robertwin38
