You're not the only one, Terry :)

I didn't let Telecom corrupt me :) I have a Vodafone phone. I use it to phone people :D I get something like 20 free txt messages to send every month... I very rarely use them up. And I usually use them to send people txt messages asking them to call me or for a land-line number that I can call them on (save me the cost of making a call from my cell-phone or to their cell-phone).

I couldn't care less how many text messages I could send in a month - I'd much rather actually talk to somebody (I think some "younger" people have forgotten how - try listening to some of them try to talk sometime :D)

Maybe thats what the insurance companies think, but I'll let you into a secret, the fact is most of us never really grow up, it's just an outward pretence, like greying hair :)

I agree Terry

Pity Telecom don't care more about the other type of customers they have and give them a fair go as well

237828 2004-05-20 11:23:00 My sixpence worth,
I dont give a rats ar** about texting,
I'd rather telcom gave us a better deal on toll calls.
And even give the compediters a bit more of there copper wire.

237829 2004-05-20 11:37:00 Would you people stop your whinging? As far as I know, this it's 1000 txts to any phone network, then 2c to telecom and 20c to vodafone. Sure, I'm too poor to afford to change to telecom, so now my "friends" have another excuse to not talk to me and exclude me (aha -"'cause it's cheaper"), but how the hell has telecom made it worse?

I thought they gave all the 20,000 people that complained what they wanted more or less to some extent!

The one track mind that telecom is bad is getting in the way of some people's judgement,....

237830 2004-05-20 22:31:00 I'd just like to add my name to the list of people who don't care. The only reason I use text messaging at all is that a lot of people insist on contacting me by this method but, more often than not, I reply with a phone call or email.

Actually, I'm not entirely sure why so people people prefer text messaging over email. I understand that it is an advantage that text messaging is instantaneous, but entering text on a telephone keypad drives me insane. Furthermore, many modern handsets support POP email anyway, so you can send and receive short emails on the run just as you would send and receive a text message, but at a fraction of the cost.

When you can write a whole 160 char. txt message in under a minute, while still doing other things, you realise that this method of communication has its use!
I would rather send a few txt messages in places where Cellphone calls arent 'allowed' (See school, church, meetings - whatever) than make a phone call.

In fact, quite often if I know the person I am txt'ing is on a Call Plan, I will ask if they can ring me.

I would love to be able to make Calls, but at $1.39 per minute peak, and $0.49 off peak, its just not viable when I can send a txt for nothing! Im not able to enter into a legally binding contract (see: Call Plan with Call Minutes) until the age of 18 - Still have 6 months to go.

Email requires the person at the other end to be sitting in front of their PC, with their email application running - so why bother if they have a Cellphone?

Obviously its not for everybody, but why not live and let live?

237832 2004-05-21 02:19:00 It seems to me that the majority doing all this heavy texting are school kids.

Frankly I don't know why school kids need cell phones.

Instead of texting their class mates they should be paying attention in class and learning something so they can get a job to earn their own money to buy and operate their own bloody phone.
