2004-05-23 23:03:00 | Just a little note, disregard if not relevant, does your friend use a serial mouse or scanner? Since serial ports are also com ports so if he plugged the mouse into a different serial port than before then this might have caused the original conflict, since they share settings. Regards

2004-05-23 23:18:00 | Thanks for those tips I'll look into and see what happens and yes the point about the mouse port may well have caused the original problem. | mark c (247) | |
2004-05-24 01:26:00 | Again I'd recommend getting the Lucent/Agere LT win modem driver from the link I've already posted. Does all versions of Windows, all modems using Lucent "Mars" range of LT Winmodem chipsets. | PaulD (232) | |
2004-05-24 01:46:00 | Yeah well thanks PaulB but the thing is we actaully have a driver from Driver Guide. But we can't get it to work. We keep getting the "Lucent Winmodem Installation Disk not found" box when we are trying to install the driver so we've emailed the guy who put the modem in and asked for the installation disk. That's the next thing. The one after that probably involves an expert as Stu's getting a bit tired of my "learning experience". (he's got much less polite expression for it) Thanks But ?:|

2004-06-04 23:28:00 | Now a pal's pal's second cousin says " why don't you just take the modem out of the box, re-boot, shut down, put it back and reboot and see if Win98se detects the new hardware and if not got to "install new hardware" and load it and stick the driver in?" We have the driver on a floppy . A lucent Winmodem Genius GM56PCI-L . Would this be the right thing to do? All a bit new to me .

2004-06-04 23:45:00 | I would do that Mark, uninstall anything in device manager that relates to modem, then turn off PC, take out modem, re-boot, turn off again, install and see what windows finds. | Jester (13) | |
2004-06-05 01:06:00 | Hey thanks Jester, we'll try it and get back here in a few days. Have a nice holiday wknd. | mark c (247) | |
2004-06-05 01:44:00 | Well, had a look and I have the CD that came with this modem. Have pruned out the programs that come with it, to leave the driver installation. It is 1.86M zipped from here (homepages.slingshot.co.nz) for a limited time :D (till you have it)
