237649 2004-05-19 03:45:00 I have been doing a bit of research, and people say that for graphics you should use a CRT moniter....but.... a tft flat screen will display exactly what the computer is trying to because it is digital, while CRT has to be converted to analog. As well as that the new mac (well regarded by the graphics industry) has TFT screen.

Comments? discussion?

237650 2004-05-19 05:24:00 I think this has been debated here before but why not again...

I prefer my 19" CRT for general computer use including games and word processing. I have a laptop with a 15" LCD screen which I tolerate when I have too. The other size of the coin is the LCD's do not emit any harmful emissions unlike CRT's (I should say potentially harmful, no link has been found between smoking and using your CRT and the big "C"). LCD's also use less power, weight less, take up less room.

You pay's ya money, you make your choice.

Consequently I have decided to get a CRT for our home computer when I sort one out. Be used for the family but I'll also want to work with photos and video. The image difference in clarity is startling - much better on the CRT.

Yes I have to agree, but I presume if you compared a $1500 Sony 19" LCD (or whatever it costs) against a cheap 19" CRT things might be different. I find the biggest problem is you have to make your purchase decision based on the device connected up in the shop. Having purchased it and used it for a week, you may have changed your opinion of the device i.e. its not as good as you thought it was.

237653 2004-05-22 10:10:00 Fair comment Dolby. $ for $ the CRT has an edge - about 40% cheaper. Depends on how much room is available for the screen too. CRT certainly takes up more space.

We have a lovely 15inch Philips TFT at work and possibly it is easier on the eyes for our beautiful ladies who transcribe my ramblings. Less flicker.

237654 2004-05-22 10:28:00 For home use I have an AOC 17" LM721A and would never go back to using a CRT. I don't play games on it much, mostly use it for DTP and word processing as well as the usual on the net etc. It is so easy on the eyes, text is crisp and colours so clear. NZer (5495)
237655 2004-05-22 20:58:00 I agree here. TFT's are much more comfortable to work with over extended periods of time. Although there is a "getting used to" period when first switching from CRT to TFT, once you get used to it (several hours use), you'll like it.

I have an el-cheapo $470 TFT monitor, and it works just fine. However in saying that, I don't play games much.
