237700 2004-05-19 03:42:00 What have telecom done to their phone lines?

Suddenly I'm getting timeouts while trying to connect to servers, like my pop3 (valuenet) server and various IRC servers, which I could get to before no problems.

What the hell is up. I only noticed it doing this from last night.

I hope telecom choke on their greed.

Do you have 56K or high speed/ ADSL etc…?

Do you know if the pop3 (valuenet) server is having problems? Do you know if the various IRC servers you visit are having problems?

Who is your ISP? Is it Xtra?

How do you know if it is the phone lines? It could be the servers that you visit? Or the DNS servers?

237703 2004-05-19 03:49:00 There is a possibility that there is a problem with your computer or line.. :O

That's far more likely than that Telecom has "done" something. Don't you think that other people might have noticed problems. :-)

Have you done a virus scan? Has a tree fallen across your telephone line?

Errr.... You set 202.27.184.3 and 202.27.184.5 as your Primary and Secondary DNS Servers?!

237708 2004-05-19 04:10:00 I use 56k cos I'm in a rural area.

I connect at between 49.2 and 52 kbps.

The 3 servers I go to are fine and working - I have asked around. Two are in auckland, and one is in the former republic of **** knows where (anyone remeber that from LAUGH festival :D)

As for valuenet, I'm not sure of their working status, but they are sub orcon, and I haven't heard of anyone complaining of orcons servers being down.

I also am having timeouts with the MSN messenger service. It takes upwards of three tries to get on.

My ISP is quicksilver. Coldfusion using quicksilver too, but I haven't heard from him in a while.

So why, would all these things cop out at the same time? They used to do i about once a month, and all I would have to do is reconnect. Now, no matter how many times I reconnect, it still times out.

I can't even connect through telnet. My computer is clean. If a tree had fallen on a powerline I'm pritty sure I'd know about it.

So, thismorning I was talking to an Xtra lady (on behalf of a client) and she said that at 52kbps in a rural area I would expect a lot of time outs. Now it seems strange to me that just last night it start timing out and now I've only just found out that it would timeout alot in a rural area @ 52kbps.

Also, why is everyone jumping in for telecom? They're dodgier than a Microsoft lawsuit.

As a ex quicksilver users (ADSL), I think the problem might be there end(quicksilver’s) & not telecom fault this time.

Have you giving quicksilver a ring?
