238391 2004-05-22 00:22:00 I have Mozilla installed on my main computer (acts as server on my network) and it works very well. But on my laptop I have a lot of trouble with it, it won't load pages, gives syntax error, on some links it defaults to a site called Caldazar?, when I try to find something with Google it gives error 404 and sometimes it works. Internet Explorer works fine but I want to run Mozilla.
I have XP Pro on both computers.
Anyne got any ideas what I should do?

238392 2004-05-22 03:48:00 Scan for Spyware/Adaware/Hijackers.

238393 2004-05-22 10:34:00 Scanned for all those; no luck.
Removed profiles, then uninstalled, even to removing as many references as i could find to Mozilla in Registry, then reinstalling; still no luck.
Installed Firefox, same result, same procedure; no good.
Downloaded ver.1.7, still hopeless.
Decided to stay with Internet Explorer, it works!

238394 2004-05-22 10:45:00 Download HijackThis (www.majorgeeks.com), create a new HijackThis folder within Program Files to place the program in then start it up and do a scan. After doing the scan create a logfile and post the results here for analysis. Do not attempt to fix anything yourself without advice or your computer may stop working. Susan B (19)

238396 2004-05-22 21:06:00 just a thiought do you have a proxy server on your network?
if so, you will need to tell firefox and mozilla so, in firefox, go tools options, General, Connection settings.

in mozilla, it is under preferences somewhere

238397 2004-05-22 22:41:00 Thanks, yes, already done that. Its under edit>preferences>advanced.
It has to be configured or the proxy server won't work at all; the IP address of the server has to be entered plus the port that the proxy server uses.

238398 2004-05-23 02:19:00 That log looks clean to me, there is nothing that I can see as being a problem so I guess that rules out the nasties . It is strange that you are being redirected to that website though .

I know nothing about proxies, servers and goodness knows what so you will have to wait and see if anyone else with experience can advise whether your problem lies in that direction . I take it that your two computers are sharing the one internet connection from the desktop? If so, the problem may lie with Mozilla not liking the network . Or something .

Sorry I can't help but don't give up . Bump this thread up once a day as I'm sure someone else will be able to help when they see it . :-)

238399 2004-05-23 02:38:00 Thanks Susan, Its kinda weird isn't it. Mozilla works beautifully on my desktop machine, you'd think it would do the same on the laptop as they both run the same operating system (XP Pro).
I've managed to get rid of the link to that unwanted web site but Mozilla still won't let me get into some other sites and trying to use Google is almost hopeless. Error 404 is one that I'm getting

238400 2004-05-23 03:39:00 Just a thought - you're using Mozilla as a server on a desktop for your laptop, right?
That logfile that Susan asked for showed at least two proxies for which you subsequently stated on a later post of yours that they had been addressed in Mozilla (in your laptop).
To my limited logic, this means that, by the time your internet files go through your desktop to your laptop, your laptop system is confused to who the server really is. i.e. Local Mozilla or remote something or other.
Maybe if you synchronised THAT information, so that your laptop knew for sure what was going on, you would be right?
Hope it Helps.
