238317 2004-05-21 12:37:00 Been thinking about a new video camera for a while. Now Sony have just released one using mini DVD for $1800. Uses -R and -RW format discs.

Meanwhile Canon (and I think Hitachi) have DVD cameras which write RAM.

So: Which is the better format? -R or RAM?

238318 2004-05-22 02:21:00 Nobody? Sheesh.

Ok, I'll help myself out.

-R is readable by most DVD players.

RAM is good for lots of data but not yet readable by most DVD players.

But this still doesn't answer the question of which is best - particularly in the long term.

238319 2004-05-22 02:36:00 Does it actually matter?

Would you keep the video on the mini disks or transcribe it onto the flavour of the day media?

If you check the availability of the mini media, you may find its about as easy to get as Unicorn poo. That would probably force you to use the RW version, and reuse them.

That means you would copy the video to the media that was most suitable for you at the time. The intermediate media has little relevance.

Oh dear.

You must be strong, we can't have you breaking down like this.

Watch the Crusaders and cheer up, drink a CD or two. Speights will make you feel worse, if thats possible.

You will find boxes of Unicorn detritus free with some mini DVD-R or DVD+R's
