238178 2004-05-21 08:21:00 Let it run Gerard, it is OK.

ZA will pop up quite few questions as it learns your computer and usually they appear when you are doing things that require net access. You can open the control console and check anything that you are not 100% sure about, but if you have run up to date versions of Spybot & Adaware, and your AV defs are also up to date you are unlikely to find anything nasty trying to dial out.

The time to watch is when you have it configured and it rarely pops up. Then you can Google search to find the answer.

If you are still not sure, say yes then go into the control console and set it to ask everytime the file wants net access. Most alerts are harmless if you keep your computer clean.

Cheers

238179 2004-05-21 09:01:00 my usual setting is to block it when svchost asks to act as a server. so far no ill effects have been found by doing so. tweak'e (174)
238180 2004-05-21 13:37:00 I think it has a bit to do with SVChost . exe 's services - no less than 5 local network and internet services . . .

goto programs >> administrative tools >> services and see how many different services rely on the svchost . exe program . . . (you need to right click a service - say DNS client) and you will see that it is tied to the svchost . exe program . . .

DNS client / DHCP client / Alerter / Computer Browser / Network Connections / Network Location Awareness (NLA) / Routing and Remote Access / Upload Manager - to name a few . . .

some of these services need access to the Internet, hence svchost . exe . does too
