2004-05-23 07:27:00 | I have an old i386 computer which is ok, except for one thing. Some clever person has put a password on the system so that after what seems like the POST i get an Enter Password:> _ Now i can get into the BIOS by pressing F2, but i cant change the password as it asks me to enter the old one. the only thing i can think of is to remove the battery or use the clearing jumper, niether of which i can find. If anyone can give me any info on where to look for either of these two things, or perhaps another method of clearing the bios it would be much appreciated.

2004-05-23 09:29:00 | Thats the problem. I dont have any docs or anything - it was just given to me by a friend who has no use for it as he bought a new computer. | agent_24 (4330) | |

2004-05-23 09:48:00 | The battery should be a small rectangular black box, about 5 cm long, 1 cm square and usually velcroed to the side of the case. It has a red and black wire that connects to the motherboard via a set of pins (i think). These should just pull off. Hope it works. Regards | Bam Bam1 (5649) | |

I mean there is a Phoenix sticker somewhere with copyright 1984 on it... |

2004-05-23 10:28:00 | It may be a NiCd rechargeable soldered onto the motherboard. Like this: store.mgram.com.au In which case there should be links beside it.

2004-05-23 10:33:00 | Well, i have another 386 computer that does have a battery similar to that, but this thing doesnt have one of those. recently I pulled the thing apart and found 2 sets of 2 jumpers on the motherboard. i shorted each out for about 5 seconds. still wants a password. turned it off again, found some big fat black IC shaped thing plugged into a socket with an alarmclock picture on it and "Dallas - Real-Time RAM" I pulled this out, put it back in - booted up....... Enter password:>_
