238798 2004-05-23 21:12:00 Does anyone know of a tool that could do this? I have a friend that decided they had copied a bunch of photos to both the desktop and "the system" (wherever that is) and decided to delete the ones on the desktop and empty the recycle bin.

I had a search on F1 but nothing obvious popped up, other than using the undelete command from Dos 6.22. Anyone know of a utility that can help?

I haven't needed something like this for so long it is scary.

There's no helping some people, who should know better, but hell you have to try.

ideas?

try this

http://www.recover4all.com , fits and runs from a floppy disk and worked for me. Best used as soon after the mistake is made as possible.

238801 2004-05-23 23:12:00 Better still put 'freeware undelete' into google.

Here's one:

thanks, people.

Try going here: www.pcinspector.de

Free program and apparently very good although I don't know from personal experience.

238805 2004-05-24 11:09:00 I tried PC Inspector this afternoon, it works ok, but the program is a bit big at 3.8MB download, it loads into Program Files. It also has a flashy GUI.

The other program I pointed to above, restoration version 2.5.1.4 is only a 162KB download and doesnt have to be installed. It works equally well at un deleting files, can be run from a floppy and has a simple GUI. It also will really delete pieces of file by writing zeros and 1's if required.

I think PC Inspector may be a bit more searching in finding deleted files, but then those files cant be recovered anyway, most are just file names with zero file length.

Both will undelete files that have just been deleted with no chance of being overwritten.

I'd tend to go for the smaller package rest2514.zip.
