2004-05-25 02:03:00 | I think it might be MS backup but am not sure. If it is not MS backup, any ideas what would use .qic files?

2004-05-25 04:42:00 | Thanks johnboy. Yeah MS backup it was. Problem I now face is that the backup was made using win98 and it seems that my new OS, win2000 is not compatible with a MS Backup on a 98 system :-( At present I have a backup that won't work :-( Not much good is it ! Also Win98 used FAT32 whereas 2000 uses NTFS, is that going to be another problem for me ? Any takers anyone ? All suggestions appreciated :-)

2004-05-25 06:40:00 | You can restore the backup via a network connection from win98 to win2k. It will mean 2 PCs etc.. but if you need the backup then give it a try. For future backups why not use zip or rar? at least you will be able to restore across an OS change.

2004-05-25 09:16:00 | I am interested in this thread. I have some old 1.44 Mb disks that hold As Built data from Win 3.1 and/or DOS. The file is ,say, CC50802C.FUL split up into *.001 to *.006 on seperate disks. I can't recover them through WinXP. Any idea how I can get them back? All help much appreciated. KB. | kbcad (1025) | |
2004-05-25 11:29:00 | It appears that unless you have a computer with Windows 95 or 98 then you are not able to restore .qic files. One site says that there is software available but does not say where: www.qic.org Another page suggests that you may have success by obtaining the W9x MSBACKUP program and run it in compatibility mode on the WinXP computer. It provides a link to that program: www.cknow.com

2004-05-25 11:35:00 | If the backups are important to you I have older versions of Windows that I could use to try and extract the files for you if you would like to email the contents of the floppy disks to me. If you are interested post a disposable email address here and I will contact you. | tommy (2826) | |
2004-05-25 20:58:00 | Thanks for your kind offer tommy. I have access to a couple of 98 powered machines here, so will explore your links and some others that were posted earlier and see how I get on. I will shout if further help is necessary, but from a quick look at the links, it seems I may well be able to achieve a satisfactory result. Again - thanks
