I have some serious problems with Norton antivirus 03' (auto protect not working nor is email scanning..) and I need to access there help section. I cant use liveupdate either! Ahh! Help! P.S I can get to www.sac.com.... |

| 238864 | 2004-05-24 03:13:00 | you most probably have a virus .........check the bytes sent as opposed to bytes received after you've logged onto the net.....you'll possibly find the sent is equal or highter than received.....this will indicate virus activity.........get online and clik the folllowing, or copy/paste into your browser addy bar.: download.nai.com this'll start the download of a small fast great little 'standalone' antivirus prog which hunts out about 40 of the latest nasties.....once you have it run it and see what happens...... |

It disables most antivirus programs also changes their website address to 127.0.0.1 in your host file which means you cannot reach their webpage. If you cannot reach the link posted by drcspy, and you don't have another uninfected PC nearby to access Symantec, I can email you the removal tool (160 KB). Let me know. W32.gaobot (securityresponse.symantec.com) Removal tool (securityresponse.symantec.com). Note, you will not be able to access either of those two links whilst you still have the worm. I posted the links for reference. |

| 238866 | 2004-05-24 03:27:00 | You do not say what version of Windows you are using but do a search for the HOSTS file, right-click it and open with Notepad. Delete all entries underneath this entry: 127.0.0.1 localhost You should then be able to use Norton AV to update your reference files. Post back for more advice if you still have problems. |

| 238867 | 2004-05-24 03:36:00 | Xtra's DNS Servers werent letting me get to it on the PC I was just using. Swapped to the Woosh DNS Servers and symantec.com and google.com now work fine... Could be related? Chill. |
