1363171 2013-12-20 22:01:00 I have tended to blow out the dust from my PC very rarely.

But Now I am thinking about doing it once a year or maybe even when we do daylight saving and change our fire alarm batteries.

What do you think ?

1363172 2013-12-20 22:28:00 Never, I prefer to suck the dust out rather than blowing it all around the place, and about once a month. Depends how clean or dirty the environment is. Terry Porritt (14)

Don't have sides on my case either.

Looks fine from here.

1363174 2013-12-20 23:29:00 I have the good fortune of owning a high powered air compressor that will blow any dust out of my pc from 5 metres away... but otherwise a can of compressed air and a vacume do the job, use the air to dislodge the dust and vacume it up. I usually dust my pc once a year. Slankydudl (16687)
1363175 2013-12-21 00:03:00 I usually do mine once a year at the start of summer. I just use a vacuum and a small brush which I use to dislodge dust build up and suck it up with the vacuum. I take the cpu fan above the heat sink off so I can get at the dust from between the fins better. I don't remove the heat sink though (better to leave that as is because I don't have the special thermal paste needed when replacing it).

I must say this seven year old PC with it's Intel Core2Duo (1.86Ghz) cpu is the coolest cpu I've ever seen, it hardly runs above ambient temperature most of the time (but I don't stress my PC so much and it's not overclocked). When I bought the PC I asked for a better than standard cpu fan for it so that probably helps keep it cool too. :2cents:

1363176 2013-12-21 01:11:00 I usually apply the vacuum cleaner whenever I take the sides off my case. Bobh (5192)
1363177 2013-12-21 03:43:00 Mines an old dual core too, still on XP. I opted for a Silverstone case when purchasing the bits, and it has kept everything remarkably clean. I have only had to clean it out a couple of times.(window on the side helps to check). I usually use a art paint brush to loosen up the stickier stuff that you find on thr fans etc, then suck it all up with the vacuum cleaner, holding my hand over the nozzle to avoid any direct contact. I also jam the brush handle in the various fans as I clean them to stop them turning. Read somewhere that you could over rev them which can be fatal. PPp (9511)
1363178 2013-12-21 05:17:00 Do mine 3 times a year when the vid card fan bearing needs lubing which gets done at the same time Lawrence (2987)

I did not know this was or needed to be done.

But I just had a video card that died and i found the fan hard to spin by hand, so that may have been a clue.

1363180 2013-12-21 05:53:00 All ours get done when the fans start making a noise OR at least once a year around November when things start heating up weather wise. Warmer days = over heating. Thats why many Modems / Routers fail around November - March. wainuitech (129)
