1362491 2013-12-14 03:44:00 Hi,
I need some help finding a decent PDF program in which to make a newsletter for our group. I looked at a couple of "free" ones, but they all seem full of malware, pop ups etc. So It would be best to get one that did not come bundled with a load of crap on it.

Adobe is a horrendous price being around $599, so I would want something cheaper than that, but decent enough to create and edit docs.

Can anyone advise on a good one to get please?

LL :)

1362492 2013-12-14 03:51:00 Word? It can save as PDF :) pcuser42 (130)
1362493 2013-12-14 04:00:00 We have tried sending out our newsletter done in word but we are dealing with a very large group of computer illiterate oldies. Most of whom do not have MS Office, and wouldn't know how to save things in a different format, however, most of them would have Adobe Reader which would open a pdf attachment.
We would just like them to be able to open the newsletter and read it without a hassle.

I am leaning towards PDF Suite Pro, does anyone use this and is it ok?

Cheers, LL

1362494 2013-12-14 04:30:00 What Pcuser was referring to is create the document in Word, then simply save as PDF.

Theres hundreds of PDF creators all free. Giveawayoftheday are posting various paid ones all the time. But theres also a few listed lib.giveawayoftheday.com They create a virtual Printer.

If you dont have MS word, then you can use Kingsoft Office Free kingsoft-office-freeware (www.kingsoftstore.com), or something like Open Office variants.

Kingsoft Office is so close to MS word 2007 /10 functions the average user couldn't really tell. You can insert pictures do just about anything MS office can do, then when time to convert it, simply save as PDF.

If you wanted to edit existing PDF's then thats a different story :)

Ah, ok, gotcha, will tell our newsletter writer and see if she can do this.
Many thanks, LL :)

Depending on what version of Word the person is using, you can add in a plug in for that version that will give the option to save as PDF.

What you can do is do a google search for Office pdf plugin 20XX ---- XX relates to what version, 2003, 2007, ----- Office 2010, 2013 comes with the options already installed.

1362497 2013-12-14 07:18:00 Ok, our news bulletin person has just sent me an attachment of the word doc saved as pdf, and it has opened in Adobe reader! Great, that is exactly the outcome which we wanted! Thank you for your help.

Well, as I said Gary, we are dealing with older people who don't know about these things.!

Open Office would be a go. Its a free download and can export a finished document as a PDF. Ideally you create and edit a word document which you then export as a PDF to your desktop and then attach to your group email.
