1362244 2013-12-10 23:18:00 hard drive failure?
information on the screen is, press f2 or f11 but the system wont boot, not even from the OS disk.
after a few minutes - "client MAC address" followed by some numbers, and "GUID" and more numbers and - DHCP......_ (revolving line above the dash). That's how it stays
this is my semi- retired XP system, used for a few games and access to the web so is not important now, I'm just curious and if practical I'll get it fixed

You have set you'r optical drive as first boot device in bios when attempting to boot from the OS disk?

1362246 2013-12-10 23:44:00 Try unplugging/re-plugging the IDE cable. Does it sound like the drive is spinning, or any clunking sounds? Renegade (16270)
1362247 2013-12-10 23:53:00 Sounds like something's gone wrong, it can't boot from any local media so as a last resort it's trying PXE. Agent_24 (57)
1362248 2013-12-11 00:37:00 1st boot is floppy, then CD, then HDD, changed them around but no good
took it right out then replaced, still no good - no noises except a very quick one wnen the button is pushed, sounds like an electrical fault(doubt that, no smell etc)
what's PXE?

1362249 2013-12-11 00:58:00 PXE has something to do with a network I think. See if there's a PXE or network boot option in the BIOS. If its there disable it Speedy Gonzales (78)
1362250 2013-12-11 03:00:00 you're a bloody legend Speedy, there's a network option, changed boot order to hard drive first, got that characteristic "beep" and away it went - by the way, how to enable/disable? all the options were in parenthesis, [ ] - thanks heaps jayal (1291)
1362251 2013-12-11 03:34:00 Sweet ! I think if you set it as the main bootdisk , or if its selected, you'll get that error. Just as long as it's on something else it should boot

Is this a gigabyte mobo?? I've seen that message appear on GB mobos more than any other mobo / system
