1341318 2013-05-14 05:33:00 Anyone been using the New Spybot2 ?

Does a good job, better than the old one that's for sure .

The free version has active protection as well . just doing some searching and I saw something flash up, then IE froze solid WTF

Went to the preview tabs in the task bar and SB2 had a message:
4982

Wouldn't let me do anything till either allow or Deny was clicked . :)

1341319 2013-05-14 06:54:00 Not recently. Tried the Beta a while back. I wasn't very impressed how they split everything up into separate programs, I prefer the old one where everything is integrated into the same interface Agent_24 (57)
1341320 2013-05-14 08:25:00 Been running it for about 2 weeks. Nice interface. But can't find settings to set up a fast scan like the previous version. kahawai chaser (3545)

There is a way to get it to scan faster, BUT theres a "got ya". You can create a white list of the system so it doesn't scan those files / Programs, the "got ya" is you cant make it on a system that's over 30 day s old by default. They suggest its done right after a fresh install.why-did-the-whitelist-link-disappear-from-the-start-center/ (www.safer-networking.org) Mumble mumble.

Found this out after installing on a workshop PC, (dropped a fresh image on it - then run the white list when prompted) but it didn't offer it on the Office Computer.

I followed this tutorial (philipyeoh.com) to display a pause button, and by chance I found a quick scan option under file sets - which won't highlight unless if you click scan on the L/H column (or something like that) and/or activate in expert settings - but no quick scan button as in malewarebytes. Would take 2 minutes to scan rather than the usual 45 minutes on full scan.

I'll try the whitelist approach you mention in SB2. Thanks.

1341326 2013-05-15 09:02:00 It's pretty good. Finds more malware than the old one. Still have the old one too. ChazTheGeek (16619)

I did find this - may or may not do the same thing:
Advanced Tools’ also provide a ‘Rootkit Scan’ 3D Spybot2 . 0 RootkitScan Spybot 2 now available . which can provide a Quick Scan of you system or a ‘Deep Scan’ which is of course more time consuming .

Personally I never use quick scans anyway - had it happen way to many times, Antimalware programs ( full scans) get to approx . 90 -95% of the way through -- and get Grrrrrrr off waiting to finish( hurry up ) :D -- then in that last 10% it finds more infections . Quick scans miss a lot .

Just did a quick scan of mine and it found 4 other MBR's which would be about right as the drive in this PC was used in a workshop one for a while --- so much for simply blowing away partitions and removing everything ;)
