1341209 2013-05-14 22:19:00 That's true, but we like to sit right back on the other side of the living room on our nice sofas, 55" for us is still absolutely fantastic! :D

I've got 23" for my Desktop monitor though and to be honest I couldn't see the point in going any larger coz I sit close enough :p

1341210 2013-05-14 22:25:00 yeah
i sit about 2 -3 meters away from my 40 inch... will probably be the same when i upgrade
if i sat at the other side of the living room it would be too far away imo

1341211 2013-05-14 23:59:00 I sit < 3M from my 60" and it's not too close. It's still not quite the same viewing angle as the movie theatre for example.
There is a range of Ideas on what is the optimum viewing angle from 20 - 40 degrees but this calculator www.hdtvtest.co.uk gives a good approximation for most people, and the article explains some of the ins and outs of it all.

It's the 55" LM7600 model, same as what I have I believe. Starting tomorrow from 8AM they're doing it for $1650+GST for the one day only for their 20th Birthday sale!!! It's a steal of a TV even at $500 more than that....

1341217 2013-05-17 01:34:00 I went to my new girlfriends house last night and she has a 46 inch LED 3D tv only about 6 months old
I have a 3 year old Sony 40 inch LCD

Got me going there! I got up to 46" and my tongue was hanging out, then it turned out to be a TV.

Priorities man, priorities!

Oh! Never mind..........:devil

They are both LCD TVs, AFAIK large screen OLED TVs are not yet on the market.

The difference is mainly in the backlighting, with some improvements to contrast ratios. Your Sony will be CFL (compact fluorescent) back lighting, and hers will have LED backlighting.

That plus the usual advances in screen technology account for the difference. Current LED TVs seem to have a viewing angle as wide as 70° off full frontal without loss of contrast, whereas my 'similar to your age' Sony LCD is fading at 45°.

Cheers

Vintage TV enthusiasts in the UK insist that their 40-50 year old 625-line delta-gun CRT TVs are better than any modern flat screen including LED. One even claims that his 60-70 year old 405-line monochrome set has superb pin-sharp definition. I think they need eye-tests and a session or two at the funny farm.
