2013-12-21 04:47:00 | Sounds like the original OS or partitions are still there. If you wiped the partitions completely, so their is nothing on the drive, including any hidden partitions AND have downloaded a ISO ( and altered it as well) for the product key you have on the case then you wont get that message. When running the ei.cfg Remover.exe, did you get a mesage saying it had removed the ei.cfg ? The unattend answer file This is a file that OEMS use to embed a default Product key as licensed from Microsoft.

2013-12-21 04:55:00 | I have followed all the instructions I could find on how to change the product key, but as I can only run in safe mode, in the Control Panel under System/Windows Activation it shows - Status Not Available and Product ID: Not Available. If its a factory Product key, which sounds like it is, then while you could install the OS with it, it WONT activate, even phoning MS they will tell you to use the COA / Product key on the sticker thats meant to be on the Computer. For a fresh install: If you dont have the sticker with the Product key you're up the creek without a paddle.

2013-12-21 05:02:00 | It's a home build. It originally had XP and I have that disc and sticker, then I added a DVD drive and upgraded to W7. I also have that disc. | EFFIGY (12530) | |

2013-12-21 05:45:00 | This is what I'd suggest -- Download the free edition of www.disk-partition.com Install it on a working PC, there is an option to make a bootable CD / ISO, make the CD ( see Picture Below) . Then boot the PC you want to re-install from fresh from this CD, you see all the partitions. Heres an example of mine on W8 yours will look different but you'll get the idea: 5407 Right click any partition, select Delete Partition, you'll get a couple of warning, agree. Do this for every partition thats shown. then click Apply - you'll get a last chance warning. Once all removed the Drive Will Be COMPLETELY EMPTY, nothing will be left, all data, programs GONE -- So make sure theres nothing on it you want. Remove the CD and reboot (its running from the memory so it will still work) you should get an invalid boot error or similar ( this is what you want) Put in the W7 DVD, reboot and install windows following the instructions and enter in your COA when required. Because you have made a universal DVD, assuming its Home Premium edition Product Key - select Home Premium. You should get a window like this ( copied from Windows 7 Forums) 5408 Once windows is installed ( and after 1 reboot) you then install drivers from the CD you mentioned as long as they are motherboard drivers. Once its all up and going, the fun part  of doing windows updates should be done to bring the system upto date with any fixes etc.

2013-12-21 21:38:00 | Ever get that sinking feeling? I got the installation disc to work this morning, happy! Then we got to the part where the system needs to restart.... And.... It comes up with 'Starting Windows' and then there is a white horozontal flash across the screen followed by blackness. Now if I try to start in Safe Mode it tells me that it can't complete the installation in Safe Mode and needs to restart.... But it can't restart. I think I just took a giant step backwards.
