1362626 2013-12-16 18:59:00 so far their are no mainstream gpu's that support HDMI 2.0. But they have all support whatever standard it is that can push 4k resolutions through display port. Again HDMI is playing catchup. Slankydudl (16687)
1362627 2013-12-16 23:29:00 Yeah its pretty much HDMI or DisplayPort across the board, a little DVI for backwards compatibility in some, almost zero VGA in anything high end. There's very little need to continue with VGA, most will include a single small adapter for DVI -> VGA.

Where you can, HDMI is the go!

Have to disagree there mate, Display Port is the most versatile, and required for G-Sync.....

1362628 2013-12-17 00:04:00 And DP is royalty free unlike HDMI Alex B (15479)
1362629 2013-12-17 01:48:00 Yeah gotta admit G-sync looks shiny!

That said, aside from Mac monitors, almost anything you're gonna buy sub 27" is only going to have HDMI, it's far less likely to have DP. For sheer compatibility alone, HDMI wins there... As I mentioned, like Bluray vs HDDVD, even if it's *not* the superior technology, mass adoption simply wins out.

If you show up to my place and ask for an HDMI cable coz you forgot yours, I have over a dozen I could nick from a device anywhere. I have zero DisplayPort cables / adapters. I'd imagine it's like that with most peoples homes too. Side-note, but you get what I mean yeh? It's not the greatest, it's not the fanciest, but it's *everywhere*.

1362630 2013-12-17 18:45:00 Yes I had never heard of DP until I started this post. (aside from some other dodgy websites)

So as Chilling says above, HDMI wins out because of popularity alone, everyone knows it, and many devices use it.

Where DP can. And can also be daisy chained. plod (107)
1362632 2013-12-17 23:19:00 "other standards" being VGA, but yeah... DVI <-> HDMI is easy. HDMI <-> Displayport works too. Chilling_Silence (9)
1362633 2013-12-21 01:19:00 I've just found out to my chagrin that there are several (many) types of DVI plug some with 16 pins and some with 24+1 and 24+5. Some are analogue and some are digital. Digby (677)
