They're funny things the older white ones, sometimes the thermal paste drys up a bit which can make it overheat. I would think you're fairly safe using that power supply, I guess just keep an eye on it for safety sake (just in case, you never know) You'll have to take it to some sort of special chap to do the dust/cooling. I guess the best thing is to take it to a "pro" who can physically assess the problem. They'll tell you what's up with the power supply and/or cooling much better than I can guess over the internet. What area you in? I haven't really done any work in the xbox scene for a while so I'm not sure if the places that used to be good are still around :p |

Check here en.wikipedia.org and look at the production sticker on the back of the xbox for when it was made. The pre 2009 ones apparently have a higher failure rate than newer ones. As for framerate problems, it genuinely is possible that the game will just be asking too much. I occasionally get frame drops in games from much earlier in the console cycle when I do play, though not very often. |

The Power supplies don't work with other models and work with 110/240v so It's highly unlikely that you have a PSU designed for a different board. It COULD be a faulty PSU or it COULD be that the box is running a little hot. I found these guys in Palmy. No idea if they're any good or not though www.trademe.co.nz |

| 1341016 | 2013-05-14 11:33:00 | www.playfeed.com this shows you where to find the manufacture date. It's entirely possible that the thing is just getting old, is being fully utilised or perhaps is a bit insecure in its housing. I had a battery charger that hummed until i opened it up and stuck some electrical tape on a transformer in it. That muted it nicely. |
