239535 2004-05-26 11:07:00 I am running winxp and office 97.
My dvd drive will not work and i understand this can be due to a conflict between the two windows products.
Anyone got anyt ideas?

This does work. I have used Office 97 running under WinXP O/s.
This using my hardware.

What Motherboard do you have? When you say that the DVD drive does not work what are trying to do with it?

I must admit that I have never tried WinXP O/S, Office 97 AND a DVD drive.

When you say the DVD does not work what are you trying to do?

Sounds like a hardware problem possibly???

239537 2004-05-27 01:41:00 Apparently Office 97 will work on XP, though some of the functionality (macros and spell checker etc) may not function correctly.
Even so, this software issue shouldnt have a bearing on your DVD drive.

If you have a look in the Startup file in the Start menu, you may have an office auto executer there. If you remove this it wont have Office 97 running in the background and may fix your dvD issue.
But are standard cd-roms working in it?
what kind of errors are you getting?

More info please
