239451 2004-05-26 08:15:00 I am the manager of a small business and am looking at upgrading accounting software. I currently use nza gold ver. 5 which as of last month is no longer supported by nza(bought out by MYOB). I have never really liked nza that much, find that the reports are a little difficult and not that detailed when it comes to getting historical info out of it.

I only need debtor and stock management and was talking to MYOB today and they suggested getting into Accounting Basics ver. 14.

I would like software with easier and more detailed reporting. Does anyone out there in pf1 land use this software in the small business sector or do any of you use any other accounting software that you would recomend.

Thanks in advance

Mike

239452 2004-05-26 08:30:00 Have just been doing a search through the pf1 archives and someone said that you cant go into negative stock in MYOB?? Is this true?? If so this would be a major problem for me as some of my stock codes are always going into negative(delay between selling item and getting invoice from supplier). Also need to have non reducing stock items. is this possible?

239456 2004-05-26 20:19:00 I'm an accountant and administrator for our MYOB Accountants Office Software at work.

I'm not going to say that MYOB is the best in the world, but it is one of the most used ones, there is a good support base for it, and it is easy to use after a short training session. MYOB v14 i think should have around 100 reports, i'm sure there is somehting in there that may be of use.

What type of business do you run?

If you're in Auckland, ring 834 8087 and speak to glenda.

The guy that wrote NZA Gold way back when used to be a builder, and he went into business in the accounting sector, as did one of his close friends John.
NZA Gold has been bought out as you said, but John has stuck to his guns and continued programming the NZ Home and Office, NZ Professional (Now discontinued because of: ) and AstarlaWorks Premier.

239458 2004-05-26 21:55:00 Yes you can go into negative stock in MYOB. My example:

Items get purchased over the month, from individual suppliers (gilmours etc..) and entered into MYOB. At the end of the month staff complete a stocktake, which gets entered into MYOB under a supplier name "Stock" with a negative quantity. I can then run a report to show "actual usage" as I have the starting stock, purchases for the month and the closing stock.

I can then import a file from the till system to get a variance report, but I won't go into that.

Some people say that the reporting in MYOB is limited, but I disagree. All it takes is to spend an hour or so setting up a custom report to the format that you need.

hope this helps?

239459 2004-05-26 21:58:00 Hi Mike

I have used Quickbooks over several years (currently Pro) in several Businesses including the Helicopter Industry and found their inventory system OK, sometime their support leaves a bit to be desired, but I guess that is the same with most companies.

239460 2004-05-27 01:30:00 I run a tyre shop. We order tyres in sell them on the same day . At the moment I can charge out products even if the comp. says I have none in stock, when i get the supplier invoice I bring it in and stock goes back up to zero(from -2 or -4 depending on the sale).
Is it possible to do this in MYOB?

Also need non reducing items such as labour, mileage etc
