| 239461 | 2004-05-27 02:17:00 | I'm surprised and at the same time not surprised that no one mentioned Quantum...we have it and have spent a fortune (note: not small fortune) on support for the damn software, it seems to have bugs through it, and "weird" things happen - like invoices that are logged in then disappear (not good!). Anyone else had issues with Quantum or are we alone in this? |

Anyone else had issues with Quantum or are we alone in this? I've been helping out a mid sized firm with their Quantum System. It's taken 8 months & many hours of frustrating phone calls, emails personal visits etc. to get it to an acceptable working state. As you say the cost support from the parent company is huge, especially since most of the problems were due to bugs in the programming. I ended up modifying some of it myself to get it working properly. I've tried to get my customer to dump it & go with something else but they are of the mindset that they have spent so much on it now, they want to stick with it. Although I must add it has been working well for a couple of months now with no problems. Personally I wouldn't touch it with a 40' pole & you should of heard Quantums support chief go off when I let slip I was running the standalone version over a 3 node network (another programming blue, they fixed that one real quick though) Have you had a look at Cashbook Complete? I use it for my own business, it's simple, easy to use & has good support. Might be too simple for your needs though, I believe the PC World CD's have had trials on them or you can download at http://www.acclaim.co.nz/ |

| 239464 | 2004-05-27 09:57:00 | > ***Bump*** > > any more takers???? Quickbooks works for me. If you are worried about Reports or the lack of you can Export data to Excel for example. Also ask your accountant if you have one and ask what they can use in the way of exported data. I saved heaps on my accountant bills by being able to get data out in a format compatible with his software. Beats the poo out of handing your accountant a herd of shoe boxes full of bits of paper variously labled as Income and Expenses and paying them to sort it. OTOH if you charged $200 per hour and the accountant charges $150 per hour then it may be worth it. Just my thought here though. Bear in mind that I never have to invoice negative stock. If I ain't got it then I get it then I sell it. |

| 239465 | 2004-05-27 10:13:00 | Negative stock is an issue with version 12 of MYOB. I will have to check version 14 at work. Everything else you want is covered in MYOB. I also have a copy of quickbooks at work, so will look at that too. | wotz (335) | ||
| 239466 | 2004-05-27 10:22:00 | Cheers would be keen to hear back. Got a copy of test drive today and have been having a bit of a play with it. Tried to oversell stock and it gave me the option to put stock on backorder for customer. Surely there must be a tag somewhere were you can make it go to negative stock. Havent done much with the report side yet though. Is very different to nza, but seems to be ok. Also decided on a laptop to run it on I think, a toshiba satelite a10. will do all I need it to. |

If you do have an accountant and he prepares your annual reports/tax return . then you want to use software that the accountant is familiar with otherwise they may just spend there 100 - $350 p . h working out how your piece of software works and how to get info out of it . Working in an accounting firm we have a majority of them using MYOB (obviously only if it meets there business needs) we have only a couple using quickbooks although i do know its a popular programme in the USA . |

| 239470 | 2004-05-28 11:01:00 | No probs. have tried entering some of my codes into test drive to see how it would work. Is a little frustrating cos it is so different from nza, will spend the weekend attacking it(maybe with a sledge). | miknz (3731) | ||
